When we discovered the Wink Hub, we were intrigued. The hardware is impressive, but the software is not...yet. Lets just hope that Wink doesn't try so hard to "improve it" that they make it a lot harder for us. Their most recent firmware update certainly make it harder for us, without an apparent improvement of reliability or our ability to control our home environment. We are so impressed by the Wink Hub hardware that we've created a configuration and control package which gives the user control over the hardware, and prevents Wink from reassuming the reins. There was so much interest in our giddy discussions at OlyMEGA that we're teaching a multi-month class on home automation, with the Wink Hub and OpenWink as major components.
OpenWink is the codebase we created to own our Wink Hubs and support this course on Home Automation. It liberates a Wink Hub from the Wink cloud service and pairs it with a Raspberry Pi running OpenHAB. Many of the home automation projects we're teaching can work with the Wink Hub, but don't have to.

Updated Firmware...We've seen glimmers of hope that firmware past version 0.33 may still be pliable after flashing straight from Wink. We're looking for devices that have been updated so we can explore.
